Five Hundred Miles
02:25
|
|||
If you miss the train I'm on
you will know that I have gone
you can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
a hundred miles, a hundred miles
a hundred miles, a hundred miles
you can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
Lord I'm one, Lord I'm two
Lord I'm three, Lord I'm four
I'm five hundred miles away from home
away from home, away from home
away from home, away from home
Lord I’m five hundred miles away from home
Not a shirt on my back
not a penny to my name
I can't go back home this way
this way, this way
this way, this way
Lord I can’t go home this way

Two Dollar Bill
04:11
|
|||
Homesick and lonesome, I'm feelin' kinda blue
feelin' kinda blue, I'm feelin' kinda blue
Homesick and lonesome, I'm feelin' kinda blue
I'm on my long journey home
There's a great big hole in the bottom of my shoe
the rain comes in and my foot goes through
I wore a hole in the bottom of my shoe
I'm on my long journey home
I lost all my money but a two dollar bill
a two dollar bill, a two dollar bill
I lost all my money but a two dollar bill
I'm on my long journey home
Methusela walked ten hundred years
when he saw that engineer
he must have cried ten thousand tears
I'm on my long journey home
If you get to heaven and you don't see
my name on that train to eternity
back it up, come rescue me
I'm on my long journey home
Cloudy in the West and it looks like rain
it looks like rain, it looks like rain
Cloudy in the West and it looks like rain
I'm on my long journey home
Black smoke a'risin' and it looks like a train
It looks like a train, Lord could it be my train
black smoke a'risin' and it surely is my train
I'm on my long journey home
I hear the train a'comin' and I'll soon be gone
I’ll soon be gone, I’ll soon be gone
I hear the train a'comin' and I'll soon be gone
I'm on my long journey home

Curtains Of Night
04:52
|
|||
When the curtains of night are pinned back by the stars
and the beautiful moon sweeps the skies
and the dewdrops of heaven are kissing the rose
it is then that my memory flies
As if on the wings of some beautiful dove
in haste with the message it bears
to bring you a kiss of affection and say
"I'll remember you love in my prayers"
Go where you will on land or at sea
I'll share all your sorrows and cares
at night when I kneel by my bedside to pray
I'll remember you love in my prayers
I have loved you too fondly to ever forget
the love you have spoken for me
the kiss of affection still worn on my lips
when you told me how true you would be
I know not if fortune is fickle or friend
or if time will your memory wear
but I know that I'll love you wherever you roam
and remember you love in my prayers
While the angels in heaven are guarding the good
as God has ordained them to do
in answer to prayers I have offered to Him
I know there is one watching you
may its bright spirit be with you through life
to guide you up heaven's bright stairs
and meet with the one who has loved you so true
and remembers you love in his prayers

Kickin' My Dawg
03:20
|
|||
Everytime I come to town
them boys keep kicking my dawg around
it doesn't matter that he's a hound
they gotta stop kicking my dawg around
Me and Lem Briggs and old Bill Brown
took a load of corn to town
my old dawg, Jim, the ornery old cuss
well he just naturally followed us
As we drove past Johnson's store
a passel of yaps come out the door
Jim he scooted behind a box
cause all them fellas was throwin' rocks
They tied a can to old Jim's tail
and run him past the county jail
well that just naturally made us sore
Lem, he cussed, and Bill, he swore
Me and Lem Briggs and old Bill Brown
lost no time gettin' down
we swept them fellas right into the ground
for kickin' my old dawg Jim around
Jim seen his duty right there and then
he lit right into them gentlemen
he sure messed up the courthouse square
with rags and meat and hide and hair

Be Who You Wanna
01:25
|
|||
I never wanna change you to rearrange you
after all, I just wanna be me
all I ask of you is that you do the things you do
and be who you wanna be
Oranges may be orange
violets they are blue
I know you don't wanna hear this
but I can't stop loving you
Roses they are red
a seasick man is green
when I'm with you I'm the happiest boy
this world has ever seen
I never mean to shape you, to bend nor break you
but darling won't you stay with me
all I ask of you is that you do the things you do
and be who you wanna be

Huck Finn
03:26
|
|||
[D] When I was [Bm] thirteen
[A] all my friends made [G] fun of me
cause [D] I wore knickers [Bm] instead of jeans
[G] just like [A] Huck Finn
I used to smoke a corncob pipe
I would smoke it late at night
I never got in trouble cause I turned out the light
just like Huck Finn
I built myself a raft of wood
I would float it whenever i could
until the day it sank right in
into the river like Huck Finn
[D] Sinking, sinking, [C] sinking, sinking
[B] sinking, sinking [A] down
[D] watch it sinking [C] see the water
[B] slowly seeping [A] round
Now that I’m twenty-two
I’m so glad that I found you
you love the river just as much as I do
just like Huck Finn
[D] I just wanna go [Bm] down the river
go [G] down the river with [A] you forever babe
[D] I just wanna go [Bm] down the river
go [G] down the river with [A] you
And when we're sixty-three
will you still be with me
going down the river just you and I
until the day we die

Crawdad
05:43
|
|||
You grab a line, I'll grab a pole, honey
you grab a line, I'll grab a pole, babe
you grab a line, I'll grab a pole
we'll all go down to the crawdad hole
honey, sugar, baby mine
Get up old man you slept too late, honey
get up old man you slept too late, babe
get up old man you slept too late
the crawdad man done passed your gate
honey, sugar, baby mine
Yonder comes a man with a sack on his back, honey
yonder comes a man with a sack on his back, babe
yonder comes a man with a sack on his back
he’s packin' all the crawdads he can pack
honey, sugar, baby mine
The man fell down and bust his sack, honey
the man fell down and bust his sack, babe
the man fell down and bust his sack
look at all them crawdads back to back
honey, sugar, baby mine
You don't need more than a piece of string, honey
a crawdad'll eat most anything, babe
a piece of rope, a piece of twine
a piece of your finger will do just fine
honey, sugar, baby mine
I heard the duck say to the drake, honey
I heard the duck say to the drake, babe
I heard the duck say to the drake
there ain't no crawdads in this lake
honey, sugar, baby mine
What'cha gonna do when the river goes dry, honey
what'cha gonna do when the river goes dry, babe
what'cha gonna do when the river goes dry
sit on the bank and watch the crawdads die
honey, sugar, baby mine
What'cha gonna do when the crawdads die, honey
what'cha gonna do when the crawdads die, babe
what'cha gonna do when the crawdads die
sit on the bank and cry, cry, cry
honey, sugar, baby mine
Look at that crawdad strut around, honey
look at that crawdad strut around, babe
by the way that crawdad struts around
I'd say he's the mayor of crawdad town
honey, sugar, baby mine

Hard Times
04:05
|
|||
Let us pause in life's pleasures
and count its many tears
while we all sup sorrow with the poor
there's a song that will linger
forever in our ears
hard times come again no more
It's the song the sigh of the weary
hard times, hard times come again no more
many days you have lingered
around my cabin door
hard times come again no more
While we seek mirth and beauty
and music light and gay
there are frail forms fainting at my door
though their voices are silent
their pleading looks will say
hard times come again no more
There's a pale, drooping maiden
who toils her life away
with a worn heart whose better days are o'er
though her voice should be merry
'tis sighing all the way
hard times come again no more

How Tired I've Been
01:51
|
|||
The Lord only knows how tired I've been
I'm trying to keep on but I don't know when
will trouble take my worried mind
and let me alone again
the Lord only knows how tired I've been
I'm trying to make the most I can
of the worn out, run down wretch I am
I tried to tell the doctor
but she would not understand
the Lord only knows how troubled I am
Please tell my ma I'll be home soon
in time to see the poppies bloom
the Lord who knows how tired I've been
will see me safely home again

Banjolele
03:28
|
|||
I placed a bet once on a horse
I can't forget that day
put my last two bucks on the mare named Luck
she ran the other way
I love my banjolele
my ukelanjolele
I love to play it daily
it's always out of tune
Seems every time I take a walk
I get lost in the park
so I eat nothing but garlic now
you can find me in the dark
It's twelve o'clock, I'm trying to sleep
the neighbors are watching TV
the blue light blinking through my windowpane
and the noise don't bother me
To the fella who took my bike
I hope that you enjoy it
you can ride it if you like
but please do not destroy it
Some days are bad, some are worse
most are simply terrible
there's one thing I like to sing
to make them somewhat bearable

In A Little While
03:56
|
|||
Let us sing a song that will cheer us on the way
in a little while we're going home
the night will end in everlasting day
in a little while we're going home
In a little while, in a little while
we shall cross the billow's foam
we will meet at last
when the stormy winds have passed
in a little while we're going home
There is rest beyond, there's relief from every care
in a little while we're going home
no tears shall fall in that city bright and fair
in a little while we're going home
We shall do the work that our hands may find to do
in a little while we're going home
the grace of God will our daily strength renew
in a little while we're going home
